During the summer, the school office is open intermittently, often in the mornings, but not every day.  Please call Mr. Horning (cell - (309) 267-8781) if you need to stop by. Summer daycare is in session most every day, but they also take field trips, go to the pool and pond, and sometimes are in the back area of the school at the playground.  So, in general, it’s best to call ahead to find someone available at school!

You can still enroll for next year - anytime!

Enrollment as soon as you are able helps the school leadership greatly as we work on staffing and program for the 2019-2020 school year.  Reserve your spot now! If you have already made your decision for 2019-2020, please complete enrollment as soon as possible! NOTE: We DO have space in all classes, but LET THE SCHOOL OFFICE KNOW of your plans if you know them!

From the Principal's Desk

As with every class of 8th graders, there will be so many fond memories.  But I want to leave you with this thought regarding our 8th graders graduating tonight:  “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord!” I’ve seen this class do just that… in academics, in athletics, in class activities, in friendships.  This class will be remembered. Some will move on to other schools, some to high school here at CLA. But if they continue to do everything with their whole heart, for the Lord, they will succeed!”

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

The weather this week has reminded me of Noah.  Can’t figure out why….? In any case, remember the story of Noah - who was called to be faithful to God’s plan even though it may not have made sense? That’s something for us to consider.  God might be calling us to do something, or stand up for something, or stick our neck out for someone, even when it doesn’t make sense (to us or others ). My prayer is that we would develop the habit of following the Holy Spirit’s lead, rather than our own human ideas and plans.  And that we would also teach others to do the same.

Thank You, Students and Staff!

Once again, as has been our history at CLA, the gospel message was shared through another GREAT program.  The band and choir shared their talents beautifully, and the program “Star Quest” again reminded all those present of the importance of God’s Word… with some fun guitar solos, boogie-wokking and great singing.  Thank you to Mrs. Stribling and Mrs. Gibson for the leadership, and to all the students for sharing their talents on Tuesday evening.

You can still enroll - anytime! But classes are beginning to fill...

Enrollment as soon as you are able helps the school leadership greatly as we work on staffing and program for the 2019-2020 school year.  Reserve your spot now! Prior to spring break, as early enrollment (discount) ended, we had a rush on enrollment, and we are already pushing 60-65 students, which is a good place to be for mid-March.  If you have already made your decision for 2019-2020, please complete enrollment as soon as possible! NOTE: We DO have space in all classes, but LET THE SCHOOL OFFICE KNOW of your plans if you know them!

From the Principal's Desk

As I put together the “upcoming events” at the top of this Lion Tales, I realized that we are now in the “less than a month remains” portion of the 2018-2019 school year.  For me, that means reflecting on the year, considering the growth, challenges, and change in our students, and having the reminder that our time - whether as a teacher/principal with students, or even simply our time on earth, is so fleeting.  Let us all consider this, and remember the message that we are closing our school year with: Jesus says “Go! Go into all the world and share the gospel!” That was a paraphrase from Matthew 28:19, and a good reminder that we are on a co-mission together with Jesus and our fellow believers.

From the Principal's Desk

I would encourage every family to invite a friend, neighbor, or family to our Easter program.  For those who have been a part of CLA for some time, remember that our programs always share the gospel message, and if you have a friend or family member who you have been praying will know Jesus, this is a great opportunity!  Jesus speaks through the music and words our students present. We should all booking forward to the celebration and gospel message next Tuesday!

Have you seen some “green” showing up around you?  As I look out the office window and see the playground begin to have patches of green grass, I’m reminded of the new life that we have in Christ Jesus.  How wonderful to know the LIFE that Christ gives us. And, of course, we can all be excited about the passing of the cold winter season making way for the warmth and newness of spring… even on a blustery day like today!

It is my hope that you truly know the value of your children’s teachers.  We shouldn’t be surprised by this, but the amount of time and effort that is poured into each classroom, each lesson, each student at Christian Life Academy, is simply amazing.  From early in the morning until well past dark, teachers are at work. They share the passion for raising your children with you, with the Kingdom. As a parent myself, I have experienced the time, effort, care and concern, as well as the professionalism, aptitude and skills of our CLA Staff.  I encourage you to say “Thank You” to a CLA teacher or staff member today!

CLA’s Easter Program- STAR QUEST

Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Stribling will be working with the K-8th grade students on CLA’s Easter program, Star Quest. Students who are interested in auditioning will be auditioning next week during the lunch hour, and audition information will go home tomorrow (Friday, February 15th).  If you are interested in purchasing a cd of the musical with the songs to use for practice at home, please send $7 with your child for a cd. If purchased individually, they are $17.98, but if purchased in packs of 10, we can purchase them for $7.  If you prefer your songs placed on a flash drive instead of a cd, please contact Mrs. Stribling.

PlayNormal ESports Fortnite Tourney

Next Monday, February 25th is CLA’s fundraiser at PlayNormal E Sports!  This isn’t just for Fortnite players, though- any student is welcome to attend and play the many games/consoles they have!  Nintendo switch for a Smash Bros mini-tournament, x box, PS4, or computer games- the options are endless! Cost is still $25, and after school transportation for CLA students is available.  Please submit the $25 and release form to Mrs. Stribling by Friday, February 22! If your child needs a release form, please have them see Mrs. Stribling as soon as possible.

From the Principal's Desk

Families of Christian Life Academy, we covet your prayers!  Please pray daily for our classrooms, students, teachers and families. We know that God works through our school - the evidence of changed lives, successful academics, and lifelong friendships are here to show us.  But we also know that our enemy, the devil, seeks ways to destroy what God is doing! We face challenges in many areas, such as finances, relationships, illnesses, and more. Keep interceding on behalf of our school.  We know that God hears our prayers, and has plans for us! Praise the Lord!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

From the Principal's Desk

Thank you , friends, for the prayers for our school over the past several weeks.  It has been an interesting time, for sure. We learned quite a bit about how to continue some manner of schooling while away from the building, then also learned that a building this old has a unique set of needs when it comes to frigid weather and a power outage.  But most of all, we learned that the CLA community is one of helping, sharing, and working together!

In Christ,

   Mr. Horning

It’s WINTER TIME!

No Kidding! What a week it has been (again!) with the winter storm, delays, and forecasts of more weather on the way.  Please continue to send students to school with appropriate clothes for the weather, and keep your eyes and ears open for news from the school via facebook, email and the TV station websites.  In all cases, remember to put safety first.

On days when we have a delay, it’s important that we reserve space in the morning daycare for families who need the care due to work schedules.  So please do not bring your children early on those days unless your work schedule requires it. Thanks!

------------The NEXT AR STORE is RE-SCHEDULED for Wednesday, January 30-----------

News from the Music Department:

The Talent show scheduled for February 1 has been Cancelled due to lack of enough entries.

Also, mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 16 for CLA's Easter program!

From the Principal's Desk

Repeat from last week, but still true:  Thank you for the many ways that you each are “family” for others here at CLA.  This includes caring and sharing with one another when there are needs, encouraging, participating in activities, asking questions and answering the questions of others!  As we will soon be moving into the season of registration and enrollment for next school year, these are all positive aspects of being a CLA family that you can share with others.  If you know of a family looking at or considering a CLA education, please encourage them to visit! In just a few short weeks you will see information coming out about the 2019-2020 school year.  Wow, time sure does move quickly!

In Christ,

It’s WINTER TIME!

As it appears we have some snow headed our way, this is a reminder abou thow we handle the weather...

  • Outdoor Recess - we have outdoor recess as often as possible, but will keep students inside if wind chill is too cold.  Please DO send students with hats, coats, gloves relative to the projected temperature for the day.

  • Snow play at Recess - students will only be allowed to play in the snow if they have snow boots and gloves (of course, jackets and hoods/hats, too).  We have outdoor hard surfaces free of snow, so all students do go outside, but they are restricted if they do not have snow gear.

  • WEATHER CLOSINGS OR DELAYS - We will close school only if the majority of the districts where our students reside are also closed.  In general, that means Olympia, Tremont, Delavan and/or DeeMack. If CLA is open, but your local district is closed, we ask you to make a safe decision about coming to school.

  • CHRISTIAN LIFE ACADEMY CLOSING ANNOUNCMENTS are online at centralillinoisproud.com and displayed on WMBD/WYZZ TV.  We also post on the CLA facebook page and send out an email. In general, an announcement will be made by 7 am.

News from the Music Department:

Do you have a hidden longing to recreate scenes from your favorite musical?  Do you suddenly burst forth into song at lunch? Practice magic in your spare time? We have a big opportunity for you! It's time for CLA's annual Talent Show/ Chili cook off on Friday, February 1st.

Students who are interested demonstrating their unique talents will need to turn in a signed permission slip by Friday, January 19th.  We need a minimum of 10 acts signed up by Wednesday, January 16th!    Vocal acts will need to provide their own karaoke track for accompaniment if desired- you will not be able to sing with a cd/mp3 featuring the artist's rendition.  Please make sure to check next week’s Lion Tales to see if we have enough acts!  If we have enough acts, auditions will be held the week of January 21st.

Chili cook-off: Entrants will need to provide chili or a dessert for 12-15 people.

Volunteer help needed!

As most people know, volunteers are crucial to the operation at CLA.  There are currently two areas where this volunteer help is most evident - the lunch room and the office.  We have many dedicated volunteers, but currently have a couple of specific needs:

  • Office volunteer needed for Mondays - these could be full days or half days.  Lori Horning lhorning@clacademy.org is the contact for this, or call the school office 449-3346.

  • Substitutes for volunteers are also important.  Those who are unable to commit to a regular weekly spot could be available to fill in.  Contact Mrs. Lawson (for kitchen volunteers) blawson@clacademy.org or Mrs. Horning (office) to become a sub!

From the Principal's Desk

As we prepare to take some “time away” I pray that we all remember the blessings that we have as a Christian Life Academy community.  The Lord has blessed us with so many families, students, and staff who lead by their example, who pray daily for what happens at school, who support one another and encourage one another.  Thank you , CLA family, for the part you play in God’s ministry here. Blessings to you as we celebrate Christmas!

In Christ,

Celebrating Christ’s birth together… another reason why I love our school!

It is with a grateful heart that I say “THANK YOU” to our students and teachers for the wonderful celebration of Christmas that we shared together last night.  As I sat and watched students share music and drama, then joined together with the CLA community singing “O Come All Ye Faithful,” I was filled with joy. I considered how different many schools “Holiday Programs” are when the focus cannot be on Jesus Christ, and was thankful that our celebration was in worship to our Lord.  This is one of multiple times each year that I am eternally thankful for the possibility of a school whose mission is to work side-by-side with families and the church to see Christian growth in our students. Praise the Lord!

In Christ,

What time does my 5th-10th grade child need to be at the school and what do they need to wear?

5th-10th grade students need to be at the school by 5:00pm if they wish to eat here.  If they won't wish to eat, they need to be here by 5:15. Students will need to wear black tops and black pants/skirt.  Some students will have costumes for the program and have been asked to bring some items from home- please check with your child to see if they are responsible for some costumes or props.

What time does my K-4th grade child need to be at the school and what do they need to wear?

K-4th grade students need to be at the school no later than 6:40 pm in their Christmas apparel.  3rd and 4th grade students may have some costume pieces that they will bring from home; Mrs. Gibson will be sending home notes for those students.

What time does the program start?

The Christmas dinner starts at 5:45 pm, with the gym doors opening at 5:30 pm.  The doors will open again for general seating on the gym floor as well as bleacher seating at 6:30 pm. The program will begin at 6:45 pm.

From the Principal's Desk

December is a time where many consider the opportunities to give.  This week we will be sending out our annual letter requesting support for the ministry of Christian Life Academy.  We pray that many find a place in their heart and a spot in their budget to help CLA thrive. If you know of someone who may want to give, please let me know!

In Christ,
