Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) first meeting of the year – Monday, September 13
The Parent Teacher Fellowship is a vital organization in support of activities at the school.  We encourage all parents to come to the first meeting on Monday, September 13 at 7 pm at the school.  Learn what PTF has done in the past and be a part of the plans for this year!  This first meeting will also be organizational in nature as officers are elected and plans for the school year are put in place.

Christian Life Academy's Annual Grandparents' Day – September 23rd
Come one, come all, to Grandparents' Day!  Grandparents (or grandparent stand-ins for those grandparents who are not available) are invited to spend time with their grandchildren for lunch, and for special activities in the classroom after lunch.  Flyers attached to this newsletter have additional information for grandparents and a form to return so we can get an accurate count for lunches that day.  Please pass flyers on to grandparents!

Freezer Whole-hog Sausage
We have some sausage in the freezer here at the school that was left over from fundraisers last year.  If you are interested or know of someone who might be interested, let the school office know.  There are several varieties – spicy (red pepper) stuffed, bulk in one pound packages and a few packages of sausage patties.  Sale price is 3 lbs for $5, or make an offer if you are interested in a larger quantity!

Box Tops and Soup Labels
Don't forget that CLA collects Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Soup Labels to help support projects at the school! FUN FACT:  did you know that Pepperidge Farms bread also has a Campbell's soup label on it? Pass this on to all your family and friends and get clipping!

Gospel Sing raises funds for CLA
Thanks to all who came and enjoyed the gospel sing this past Sunday night.  What a blessing it was, as the free will offering brought in over $740 donation to the school!  Thanks to the “Gospelaires” and the others who participated and helped benefit the school.

From the Principal's Desk
How good it is to sing praises to the Lord!  One of the new things we are doing in our Monday chapels each week is learning and singing some praise songs together.  They have motions and are all about praising God for His love and mercy to us.  Thanks to Mrs. Bowman for taking the lead on this.  We are blessed with many talented staff members!  Ask your kids about the songs we have done so far...
                                                                        In Christ,
                                                                            Mr. Horning

Office Mail

Any items that eventually are handled by the school office (lunch money, tuition payments, notes, etc.) should be sent with your children in their backpack/folder in the morning.  This is the most efficient way to get items to the school office, as each class sends items to the office every day.  Please be sure envelopes are CLEARLY labeled so that they will get to the correct location.  If you would prefer to deliver it yourself, please place items, clearly marked, in the tray on the corner of the secretary's desk.
Thank You!                                                      - Lori Horning, Secretary

Student and Parent Handbooks

Please remember to read through the handbook and sign the agreement paper, which should be returned to school as soon as possible.  If you do not have a handbook, some are available in the school office and will also be out on the table during orientation/dedication night tonight.

Box Tops and Soup Labels

Did you know that CLA collects Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Soup Labels to help support projects at the school?  If you have collected them over the summer or have some still attached to cans or boxes, just clip and send!

“Play Ball” with CLA and the Normal Cornbelters on Tuesday, August 24th

Enjoy a night of baseball and fellowship with other CLA families!  On Tuesday, August 24th we will be taking the CLA bus to the Normal Cornbelters game.  We have a section of box seats reserved at a group rate of $8 per seat (regular price is $11).  Additionally, CLA students can pay only $5 for their box seats by filling out a reading voucher.  Sign up tonight at orientation/dedication, or stop by the school office.  If the bus is full (25 passengers) we will take some vans as well!

Gospel Sing in Hopedale Park next weekend

Sunday night, August 29th at 6:00 pm there will be a gospel sing in the park behind the school.  For those of you who are not familiar with Hopedale, the park entrance is the road beside the playground.  The band stand is past the large pavilion and parking lot, on the right side.  The sing is hosted by the Gospelaires (Dani Litwiller's father Kevin and Marissa and Landon Horning's grandfather, Daryl Birkey, are a part of the group).  A free will offering will be lifted for Christian Life Academy!  In case of rain or "hot" weather, the sing will be held at the Boynton Mennonite Church.

From the Principal's Desk

The start of a new school year is always an exciting one, and 2010-2011 did not disappoint!  From newly painted lines on the playground/pickup area to locker noises from a middle school of 18 students, the school was  abuzz with “new” yesterday and today.  Thinking of the word “new,” I remembered the words in 2 Corinthians 5:17:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
It is our prayer this year that Christ would lead us, and that through us many more would experience the newness of life in Christ!
In Christ,
                                                                                                            Mr. Horning

CLA Standardized Testing Results

posted May 27, 2010 6:27 PM by Ben Griggs   [ updated May 27, 2010 7:18 PM ]

Thanks to a unique partnership with Sylvan Learning, Christian Life Academy was recently able to participate in a standardized testing program that revealed where our students rank nationally.  The tests were administered to grades K-8, and focused on core math and reading skills.

The results are below, and are presented as follows: overall test rankings, and rankings of K-1st grade.  K-1 was specifically broken out because they have been identified as the students on who CLA has had the most academic influence (CLA was founded in 2008).

Grades K-8: 70% of students scored at or above current grade level

Grades K-1: 89% of students scored at or above current grade level

Thanks to Sylvan for the testing opportunity, and GREAT job CLA students and teachers.  The numbers speak for themselves!

For more information on the test results, or for general questions about CLA, e-mail office@clacademy.org or call our office at (309) 267-8781.  For more information on Sylvan Learning, click on the image below.

CLA Announces New Classes for Middle School Students

posted May 21, 2009 12:11 PM by Joshua Horning

Lab Science, Algebra 1 and Creative Writing added for 2009-2010

Christian Life Academy, located in Hopedale, has enjoyed a successful first year of classes for students in grades K-8.  Building upon this success, the school will be offering expanded options for students in their older classes for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year.

CLA middle school students will have the opportunity to expand their learning through a hands-on laboratory science course, improve their writing fluency and skill through creative writing, and continue to build their Spanish language knowledge.  These courses will be offered twice weekly and will be open to home-school students just as CLA's Spanish class was offered in 2008-2009.  The Spanish class will again be offered for returning and new students.  Science and Spanish will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon, while the creative writing course days and times are yet to be determined.  Students are welcome to register for one or more classes, as tuition discounts will be offered for multiple classes and multiple students from the same family.

Additionally, an Algebra 1 course will be offered at the school. Building the foundation of upper level mathematics is quite important, and the course will be taught by an experienced algebra teacher.  This course will be open to home school families as well, for students who have completed some pre-algebra material and are ready for the challenge of Algebra 1.  This course will be offered 3-4 days per week and is intended for students in grade 8.

For more information on the middle school program at Christian Life Academy, for general information about our K-8 program, or to register your child at CLA, please contact the school office at 309-449-3346 or email office@clacademy.org.  Christian Life Academy offers a comprehensive curriculum with its foundation on the Bible.  Christian Life Academy, Inc., admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.

Christian Life Academy Spotlight: Swimming in PE

posted Apr 17, 2009 8:19 PM by Ben Griggs   [ updated Apr 24, 2009 11:06 AM by Joshua Horning ]

Developing a lifelong habit of exercise and fitness is very important, and Christian Life Academy and the Hopedale Wellness Center will encourage CLA students to develop this habit by using swimming and pool safety classes as part of the CLA physical education program.

In the fall of 2008, all ages of CLA students had lessons once per week, and CLA students currently have one open swim class each week. Christian Life Academy wishes to thank Hopedale Medical Complex and the Wellness Center for this opportunity.

These swimming sessions are a part of the regular physical education program that is being developed at Christian Life Academy. Other facets of the program include games and activities that develop fitness as well as coordination and skills for participation in organized sports. Plans are also in place to develop athletic competition opportunities, including basketball and golf.

Christian Life Academy, a private Christian elementary school located in Hopedale, is accepting registrations for all elementary grades. Contact Principal Josh Horning at (309) 449-3346 or office@clacademy.org. CLA admits students of any race, color, and ethnic or national origin.
