It is my hope that you truly know the value of your children’s teachers.  We shouldn’t be surprised by this, but the amount of time and effort that is poured into each classroom, each lesson, each student at Christian Life Academy, is simply amazing.  From early in the morning until well past dark, teachers are at work. They share the passion for raising your children with you, with the Kingdom. As a parent myself, I have experienced the time, effort, care and concern, as well as the professionalism, aptitude and skills of our CLA Staff.  I encourage you to say “Thank You” to a CLA teacher or staff member today!

I had the opportunity to sit in today on some rehearsals going on for the Easter Program.  We’re in for a treat with the scripture and Godly message in the program Star Quest.  It’s just so exciting to see our students preparing to share the Word and salvation with their friends and family.  The students are truly living out the Great Commission. I’m thankful for the impact of our staff and families on the lives of these young people.  Praise the Lord!

Families of Christian Life Academy, we covet your prayers!  Please pray daily for our classrooms, students, teachers and families. We know that God works through our school - the evidence of changed lives, successful academics, and lifelong friendships are here to show us.  But we also know that our enemy, the devil, seeks ways to destroy what God is doing! We face challenges in many areas, such as finances, relationships, illnesses, and more. Keep interceding on behalf of our school.  We know that God hears our prayers, and has plans for us! Praise the Lord!

Thank you , friends, for the prayers for our school over the past several weeks.  It has been an interesting time, for sure. We learned quite a bit about how to continue some manner of schooling while away from the building, then also learned that a building this old has a unique set of needs when it comes to frigid weather and a power outage.  But most of all, we learned that the CLA community is one of helping, sharing, and working together!

It’s WINTER TIME!

No Kidding! What a week it has been (again!) with the winter storm, delays, and forecasts of more weather on the way.  Please continue to send students to school with appropriate clothes for the weather, and keep your eyes and ears open for news from the school via facebook, email and the TV station websites.  In all cases, remember to put safety first.

On days when we have a delay, it’s important that we reserve space in the morning daycare for families who need the care due to work schedules.  So please do not bring your children early on those days unless your work schedule requires it. Thanks!

The Talent show scheduled for February 1 has been Cancelled due to lack of enough entries.

Also, mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 16 for CLA's Easter program!

From the Principal's Desk

Repeat from last week, but still true:  Thank you for the many ways that you each are “family” for others here at CLA.  This includes caring and sharing with one another when there are needs, encouraging, participating in activities, asking questions and answering the questions of others!  As we will soon be moving into the season of registration and enrollment for next school year, these are all positive aspects of being a CLA family that you can share with others.  If you know of a family looking at or considering a CLA education, please encourage them to visit! In just a few short weeks you will see information coming out about the 2019-2020 school year.  Wow, time sure does move quickly!

It’s WINTER TIME!

As it appears we have some snow headed our way, this is a reminder abou thow we handle the weather...

  • Outdoor Recess - we have outdoor recess as often as possible, but will keep students inside if wind chill is too cold.  Please DO send students with hats, coats, gloves relative to the projected temperature for the day.

  • Snow play at Recess - students will only be allowed to play in the snow if they have snow boots and gloves (of course, jackets and hoods/hats, too).  We have outdoor hard surfaces free of snow, so all students do go outside, but they are restricted if they do not have snow gear.

  • WEATHER CLOSINGS OR DELAYS - We will close school only if the majority of the districts where our students reside are also closed.  In general, that means Olympia, Tremont, Delavan and/or DeeMack. If CLA is open, but your local district is closed, we ask you to make a safe decision about coming to school.

  • CHRISTIAN LIFE ACADEMY CLOSING ANNOUNCMENTS are online at centralillinoisproud.com and displayed on WMBD/WYZZ TV.  We also post on the CLA facebook page and send out an email. In general, an announcement will be made by 7 am.

News from the Music Department:

Do you have a hidden longing to recreate scenes from your favorite musical?  Do you suddenly burst forth into song at lunch? Practice magic in your spare time? We have a big opportunity for you! It's time for CLA's annual Talent Show/ Chili cook off on Friday, February 1st.

Students who are interested demonstrating their unique talents will need to turn in a signed permission slip by Friday, January 19th.  We need a minimum of 10 acts signed up by Wednesday, January 16th!    Vocal acts will need to provide their own karaoke track for accompaniment if desired- you will not be able to sing with a cd/mp3 featuring the artist's rendition.  Please make sure to check next week’s Lion Tales to see if we have enough acts!  If we have enough acts, auditions will be held the week of January 21st.

Chili cook-off: Entrants will need to provide chili or a dessert for 12-15 people.

For more information, please see the attached letter. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Stribling at astribling@clacademy.org

Also, mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 16 for CLA's Easter program!

Volunteer help needed!

As most people know, volunteers are crucial to the operation at CLA.  There are currently two areas where this volunteer help is most evident - the lunch room and the office.  We have many dedicated volunteers, but currently have a couple of specific needs:

  • Office volunteer needed for Mondays - these could be full days or half days.  Lori Horning lhorning@clacademy.org is the contact for this, or call the school office 449-3346.

  • Substitutes for volunteers are also important.  Those who are unable to commit to a regular weekly spot could be available to fill in.  Contact Mrs. Lawson (for kitchen volunteers) blawson@clacademy.org or Mrs. Horning (office) to become a sub!

From the Principal's Desk

As we prepare to take some “time away” I pray that we all remember the blessings that we have as a Christian Life Academy community.  The Lord has blessed us with so many families, students, and staff who lead by their example, who pray daily for what happens at school, who support one another and encourage one another.  Thank you , CLA family, for the part you play in God’s ministry here. Blessings to you as we celebrate Christmas!

In Christ,

Celebrating Christ’s birth together… another reason why I love our school!

It is with a grateful heart that I say “THANK YOU” to our students and teachers for the wonderful celebration of Christmas that we shared together last night.  As I sat and watched students share music and drama, then joined together with the CLA community singing “O Come All Ye Faithful,” I was filled with joy. I considered how different many schools “Holiday Programs” are when the focus cannot be on Jesus Christ, and was thankful that our celebration was in worship to our Lord.  This is one of multiple times each year that I am eternally thankful for the possibility of a school whose mission is to work side-by-side with families and the church to see Christian growth in our students. Praise the Lord!

In Christ,

What time does my 5th-10th grade child need to be at the school and what do they need to wear?

5th-10th grade students need to be at the school by 5:00pm if they wish to eat here.  If they won't wish to eat, they need to be here by 5:15. What time does my K-4th grade child need to be at the school and what do they need to wear?

K-4th grade students need to be at the school no later than 6:40 pm in their Christmas apparel.  3rd and 4th grade students may have some costume pieces that they will bring from home; Mrs. Gibson will be sending home notes for those students.

What time does the program start?

The Christmas dinner starts at 5:45 pm, with the gym doors opening at 5:30 pm.  The doors will open again for general seating on the gym floor as well as bleacher seating at 6:30 pm. The program will begin at 6:45 pm.

December is a time where many consider the opportunities to give.  This week we will be sending out our annual letter requesting support for the ministry of Christian Life Academy.  We pray that many find a place in their heart and a spot in their budget to help CLA thrive. If you know of someone who may want to give, please let me know!

Thursday, December 13, CLA Christmas Dinner and Program

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

CLA Christmas Program Information

CLA’s annual Christmas dinner and program is rapidly approaching!  This year’s program will feature skits by individual music classes as well as songs from our choir, band, and student body.  Tickets for the dinner will be $8 per person, and our dinner will feature an appetizer, ham, salad, roasted potatoes, green beans, rolls, desserts and drinks.  This is a great opportunity for some quality family time without having to cook or clean up afterwards!

A sheet went home in the previous Lion Tales… If you need more info, please contact Mrs. Stribling.

REMINDER… It’s cold outside!

Please make sure that your children are properly dressed for OUTSIDE recess every day!  That means hats and coats, gloves, etc. We will keep children inside if they are not dressed warmly enough, but we do want ALL kids to get outside.  We will continue outside recess as our normal routine each and every day, except when windchill or rain sends us inside.

WEATHER….Check Facebook and check TV Stations (WEEK)

If there is a school delay or closing, CLA will generally follow the Olympia school district’s decision.  As happened on Monday, if a large number of other districts where our families reside are closed, we may do the same.  We will post a message on facebook and also be listed on TV stations, so please check these sources before leaving for school!

From the Principal's Desk

I just wanted to take the time to encourage everyone… God is at work every day!  We can see His hand here at school every day. We see students who show God’s love to one another.  We see families who put Jesus first in their lives. What a wonderful blessing! Keep following HIM!

In Christ,

Peace and patience were our two fruits of the Spirit that we focused on for this week.  What a challenge… may our interactions with others be full of these two fruits today and always!

I was impacted recently by some words from Psalm 119:151: “Yet you are near, O Lord, and all your commands are true.”  Sometimes we feel like the problems or struggles of our day are the closest thing on our minds. But remember, our Lord is BIGGER, and He’s near to us as well!  May you be encouraged when you remember the love of God for you today… no matter what else is near and on your mind!

From the Principal's Desk

We are beginning a Monday morning chapel series on the fruit of the Spirit, from Galatians 5:22. This week our focus was on LOVE.  I’ve been challenged recently in several different Bible studies and groups I am a part of to truly understand what it means to LOVE one another… and to live out the Holy Spirit’s directives for my life.  I hope that is our sincere desire - as we direct our children as well - to LOVE as Jesus first loved us!

THANK YOU! LIFE DAYS WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!

The actual numbers take a bit of time to finalize, but we can surely say that Life Days 2018 was a great success raising funds for our school.  It appears that the final tally will fall in the range of $48-50,000, which is right in line with the budgeted amount and the goal that was set.  It took dozens of volunteers and hundreds of attendees, and again we say “Thank You” to all who contributed in so many ways.

REMINDER… It’s getting colder outside!

Please make sure that your children are properly dressed for OUTSIDE recess every day!  That means hats and coats, gloves, etc. We will keep children inside if they are not dressed warmly enough, but we do want ALL kids to get outside.  We will continue outside recess as our normal routine every day, except when windchill or rain sends us inside.

From the Principal's Desk

As the first quarter of the school year was completed last week, that means report cards are coming… A regular check on the progress we are making is important.  We can see areas of excellence, and areas to improve. Parent-teacher conferences are coming up next week. I always look forward to the opportunity for parents and teachers to sit down together and seek what is best for each child.  I think it’s a great example of collaboration together! We are happy to share in the education of your children!

REMINDERS: SAFETY DURING THE DROP-OFF and PICK-UP TIMES . . .

It is very important that we consider SAFETY FIRST during the drop-off times in the morning and the pick-up times in the afternoon.  We have noticed a few things that we can improve upon so as to avoid the chance of an incident:

●       At drop-off times, remember that students should WALK ON THE SIDEWALKS when they get out of the car.  So whether they get out of the car near the front or the back of the line, it’s important that they walk directly to the sidewalk, then to the doors.

●       DRIVERS, PLEASE BE PATIENT.  Some students take longer than others to get in or out of cars.  Our dismissal takes less than 7 minutes most days… so please wait the extra minute for the cars in front of you to unload/load - do not pull around them.  Safety first!

●       PLEASE PULL FORWARD whenever possible, but PLEASE AVOID PASSING CARS IN FRONT OF YOU in both drop-off and pick-up lines.  The one exception is if a car pulls all the way forward to the end of the sidewalk to wait for a student.  The extra time waiting for the cars in front to exit can save a fender-scrape or worse yet a dangerous situation for a child.

●       REMINDER… Drivers should not get out of the cars during drop-off or pick-up time.  If you need to exit your car, please park in the gravel lot or in a marked space…. not in the drop-off or pick-up lane.

It is my hope that the 4-day weekend we have ahead of us will be a refresher for our staff, possibly a time of connection for our families, and also a preparation for a big week coming up.  Next week is an important week for our school.  Looking forward to seeing so many at Grandparents Day and Life Days!
