From the Principal's Desk . . .

Throughout the year, in chapels, classrooms, hallways, the gym and playground, we have encouraged our students to live out the calling that Jesus has on their lives.  We’ve encouraged them to live for Jesus, to put others first, to shift their thinking in ways that Jesus calls them to.  And now, it’s time to release them for the summer - to live out their life in a different place, but in the same way!  My prayer, as we release them tomorrow, and as we release our graduates, is that they would follow the path marked out by God for their lives!

From the Principal's Desk . . .

It’s amazing that we are just a week away from completion of this school year! Wow.  It has been a wonderful year, with great things happening here at CLA.  I’ve been challenging our students in the past couple chapels to take what they have been learning at school this year, and go into “all the world” (you know, like the pool, and the baseball field, and the park) this summer… and see this as an opportunity to share Jesus, to “make disciples,” to be an example of the love and truth of Jesus.  I hope that as your family transitions into summertime, that you do the same- find ways to be Jesus to a hurting world, to live out the Great Commission every day.

In our staff devotions and prayer time, we have reflected on some passages in I Peter 3 and 4.  It is such a joy to meet daily with others who are taking very seriously the job and ministry of sharing Jesus with our children.  As we approach the end of our school year, here’s a reminder from I Peter 4:7-8. “The end of all things is near.  Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.  Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  May the Lord speak to us, and show us what it means to love each other deeply!

Standardized Testing next week . . .

Annually, CLA administers standardized tests to all of our K-9 students.  We don’t focus on the test as much as seeing the progress and grade level equivalencies for our students.  It also gives us a good idea what areas of focus we should have to make sure the students are receiving the best instruction possible.  During the test week, we remind families to make sure that students get adequate sleep and a good breakfast!

Reading in Romans 8 this morning, I was reminded of several very important concepts, which are helping me today…. We are more than conquerors (of trouble that comes our way) because God is FOR US.  Remember to rest in His promises for you today.  Remember to seek and follow the path that God has for you.  I am so glad to be on this journey of Christian education with all of you!

Standardized Testing first week in May . . .

Annually, CLA administers standardized tests to all of our K-9 students.  We don’t focus on the test as much as seeing the progress and grade level equivalencies for our students.  It also gives us a good idea what areas of focus we should have to make sure the students are receiving the best instruction possible.  K students do one test - language/reading (the GRADE).  1st-4th grade students take both the GRADE and a math test (GMADE).  5th-9th graders take a battery of tests covering multiple different subject matters (Stanford 10).  During the test week, we remind families to make sure that students get adequate sleep and a good breakfast!

The 10th Annual CLA Golf Outing will be held on Friday, June 2nd, at Bluegrass Creek Golf Course in Minier. We encourage all CLA families to get involved in some way -  volunteer, come eat lunch and watch the golfers, or, of course, play in the event if you are interested.  Most of all, we encourage you to PROMOTE this event to friends and family. Although it is not nearly the large event of Life Days, the CLA Golf Outing is actually nearly one third of the financial benefit of Life Days!   Please help us spread the word.  Packets were sent home yesterday with all the details.

From the Principal's Desk

What is your purpose? I have been thinking about this, and the recent reminder from I Peter 3:18 of Jesus’s purpose - “to bring us to God,” resonated with me.  If we are to be like Jesus, then we also want to create ways for those around us to be brought to God!  I pray that more may know the Lord through what we do at CLA!

CLA’s Easter Program . . . in just a few days: Tuesday, April 11

Just a friendly reminder that next Tuesday, April 11th, is CLA's Easter program!  This is a two part event, starting with the Road to Resurrection and ending with our community worship time at 7:00pm. The Road to Resurrection is open to all of our school families, but is being put on by the 5th-9th grade students. The Road will consist of 5 important moments of Jesus' life and will take about an hour to go through. After you are done going through the Road to Resurrection, there will be refreshments in the cafeteria as well as a photo stop.

  • To sign up for a time to go through the Road to Resurrection or to bring supplies, please check out the SignUp Genius link below.

www.signupgenius.com/go/4090448aaaa2ca2fa7-road1

  • 5th-9th grade students should plan on staying after school to set up for the Road to Resurrection and either bring something to eat for dinner or $3 to pitch it for pizza.  Be sure to bring any clothes you wish to change into for the event!  Students are responsible for set up of the rooms prior to the Road and for tear down after the community worship service is over.
  • K-4th grade students are welcome to attend the Road to Resurrection!  If you choose not to go throught the Road to Resurrection, students will need to be here no later than 6:45pm.  Students will need to have dress clothes for the program- no jeans, t shirts, shirts with writing or graphics on them.

Scholastic Book Fair Open Today through April 12 . . .

Our annual Scholastic Book Fair begins today!  This is a great opportunity to get books for your family and help our school get books for the classrooms and library!  In the last several years, our school has earned an average of $500 credit for books from each fair!  Books are available for purchase in the school lobby beginning today through Wednesday, April 12th.  Books can also be purchased while families are here for the Easter program on the 11th.

  • New this year is an option to shop online! Simply go to www.scholastic.com/bf/cla and shop from there.  All books ordered will be shipped for free to the school and should arrive by April 26th.

If you have any questions, please contact Miss Angela at the school or Lauren Gibson at pianogal39@gmail.com.  Thank you for your support of CLA through our Book Fair!

From the Principal's Desk . . .

Christ died, once for all, and rose again - so that we may have new LIFE!  The celebration of Easter is my favorite - because it is the whole basis of our new life as Christians… May you each reflect on this truth once again this upcoming Easter season.  We are excited to share this time with our CLA community!

EASTER PROGRAM -- APRIL 11 -- "ROAD TO RESURRECTION!"

On Tuesday, April 11th, CLA will be having its annual Easter program!  This year, families will get to experience the Road to Resurrection- an interactive walk-through of 5 stations that reflect powerful moments in Jesus' life.  Groups of 15-20 will be led by a destination guide to each station, and overall it will take between 50-60 minutes to complete.  After you are done, please visit the cafeteria for refreshments or take your children outside for some family play time prior to our community worship service at 7 p.m.

In order to make this evening a success, we need YOUR help!  We need an adult volunteer to oversee the refreshment station in the cafeteria, a photographer, and several people who would be willing to contribute some cookies/treats! If you are willing to help, please email Mrs. Stribling at astribling@clacademy.org and let her know what you would be willing to do!

Parents, be sure to use SignUp Genius to reserve a time slot to participate in the Road to Resurrection.

Today, along with several others, I walked the building to do some investigation of our HVAC in the building.  As we got to talking of the details of heating and cooling, we discussed the long range future plans for our school.  There was activity in the building - classrooms were in action, students walked past us in the hallway and smiled or waved, and the sights and sounds of school were all around.  I was taken back to a time nearly ten years ago when I walked the building, with empty classrooms, empty offices, and silence.  How great is our God, who has brought us this far?  Beyond our imagination!  Thank you, Lord, for what YOU have done in our school.  May we continue to walk in your ways as long as you sit fit for our school to minister!

Parents, you will be receiving an email next week with a link to the event on SignUp Genius that will allow you to reserve a time slot to participate in the Road to Resurrection.

Kindergarten through 4th grade students will need to have "dress casual" clothes for the program- khakis/polos/dress shirts for the boys, dresses/leggings for the girls. No jeans, t-shirts, or clothing with writing/graphics on them, please!  (There should be ample time for any K-4 students who wish to participate in the Road to Resurrection to change prior to the worship service at 7pm.)

5th-8th grade students- most of you will be staying after school on Tuesday 4/11 to transform the classrooms into stations!  Please bring clothes to change into for the Easter program. :)

As always, if you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Stribling!

From the Principal's Desk . . .

Wow! How exciting it has been to visit with prospective families during our three Open House nights.  God continues to send families to CLA that are committed to the best for their children’s education!  Praise the Lord for the community He is building here, and continue to pray for families that are making decisions about the future… including each of you reading this message!  Blessings to you as we work side-by-side for the Lord.

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, our chapel theme for the past few weeks has been on a “soul shift.”  This week the topic was shifting our focus from what is “seen” to what is “unseen.”  We can see the effects of the wind, but we can’t actually see the wind.  The same is true of how we follow Jesus.  We may not be able to see Jesus, but we can see the effects of Jesus’s work in our lives and the lives of those around us.  It is my prayer that we would “see” Jesus in all aspects of the work here at Christian Life Academy!

Our chapel theme for the past few weeks has been on a “soul shift.”  Jesus helps us to change our thinking from focus on “self” to a focus on “others” … and shifting from being a “slave to sin” to being a “child of God.” It is my prayer that working side-by-side, parents and school can help our children to thrive and grow!  Praise the Lord for the opportunity to train our children together.

With just a few basketball games remaining, and volleyball practices leading to games in a few weeks, I was thinking recently about “teamwork” and how we are all a part of the team working together for the discipleship of our students here at CLA.  John 15 talks about how Jesus is the vine and we are the branches.  Let’s all stay connected to the vine… and help these young branches become fruitful!

FRIENDLY REMINDER - ILLNESS . . .

We know that children do get ill, and in a school setting it is important to keep illness from spreading.  So, please follow these guidelines:

  • Children who are sick should remain home and be fever and symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Children who are sick should not come to school for special activities - parties, after-school activities, sports games or practices, etc if they have not been symptom-free for 24 hours.
  • Please do call the school office in case of illness to let us know of absences.

From the Principal's Desk . . .

I have been drawn (possibly because we are having a sermon series on this passage…) to 1 Peter 4 this week.  Verse 10 tells us “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”  Wow - I’m reminded of how our CLA staff and families - as those involved in many Christian ministries - have so many gifts that God has bestowed on us.  And we are called to work together, not because we all are alike, but because we all bring our uniqueness to this place.  Thank you, God, for making us all different - and vital - for the purposes of your Kingdom!

In Christ,

Mr. Hornin

NEW… We are beginning to use the REMIND app/system to send out text alerts.  This will be used for emergency announcements and weather closings.  If you have not received an invitation and would like a cell number added, please contact the school office via email.

In Monday’s chapel, it was a treat to watch Nathan Booker, 8th grader, be fed like a baby.  We also watched a short video about a grown man, who was still playing t-ball and in kindergarten.  We had fun laughing at these shenanigans, but learned the message that God wants us to “grow up” in our faith, just like we grow up physically.  It is a joy to participate in the growth of so many students.  This year, our 8th grade class will be the first class of graduates who were in kindergarten the year CLA was founded.  One graduate, Emma Yoder, will be the first to complete all nine years - K-8th at CLA.  Wow!  Thank you, parents, for allowing us to partner with you as we share a Biblical worldview through all we do for and with the students at CLA.

I’d just like to leave you with a few words from Psalm 100:  “Shout for Joy to the Lord...Know that the Lord is God….For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”  I’m thankful for these words of truth!
