Technology Corner

Having Tech Issues?  Now that our students and teachers have “hit their stride” in the school year, this is a reminder that if you have technology issues - chromebook issues, struggling to get the digital communication from school, or anything else tech-related, please ask for help!  We have multiple staff members that can help get these issues solved. Just ask!

Reminder - devices are monitored by GoGuardian.  All chromebooks which are used at school, whether owned by CLA, or personally-owned devices that are loaded with a school license, are monitored during off school hours.  This is necessary for school use, since off-hours searches and activity often affect in-school usage peripherally. If students do not wish to be monitored by GoGuardian they need to use a different device than the one that is licensed by the school. Want to know more? Mrs. Stribling or Mr. Horning would be glad to talk with you!

From the Principal's Desk

What a busy week this has been as we prepare for Life Days.  But it is nearly upon us!  Would you take a few minutes to PRAY for the success of this, our greatest fundraiser?  Would you then also TELL SOMEONE about CLA and the value it brings to your family?  Would you also ASK that person - and others - to support our school?  It’s amazing what word of mouth accomplishes!

Blessings,

        Mr. Horning

Life Days is important for the life of our school! Don’t sit back - participate!   I ask each of you to jump in and get involved. It is one of the most important time periods of the year to keep the school operating!  It will be a different kind of involvement this year - we won’t need 50 volunteers on site like in the past, but we WILL need people to SPREAD the WORD of what Christian Life Academy means to your family… and ask for others to help support the school.  Of course, volunteers will be needed, too.  Looking forward to serving side-by-side with you all!

Blessings,

Fall is in the air! I am a big fan of the cooler weather, the harvest time, apples, pumpkins, leaves changing colors, and all the other reminders that a new season is upon us.  I believe, wholeheartedly, that God is also bringing us into a new season of gratefulness.  We will begin a new theme of gratefulness with our Monday morning chapel next week.  Please take the time to read and ponder Psalm 105.  If not the whole psalm, at least look at the very beginning! Verse 1 says “Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name, make known among the nations what He has done.”  I am hopeful that we can lead our students to see the amazing work of the Lord… and be grateful for all HE HAS DONE!

Blessings,

        Mr. Horning

If your child is interested in any of these, keep your eyes open for information coming up soon. We also did some informal polling at school last week.

As we turn to fall, I am celebrating that we have now passed the “we made it through a month” mark for the school year.  That is a celebration because there were times that we thought we might not be able to come back to school.  Thank you, CLA families, for your partnership with us.  Thank you also, in advance, for your participation in LIFE DAYS, which will come up the first weekend of November.  You will see many details coming out over the next two weeks about LIFE DAYS.  It is our greatest celebration and fundraiser each year.  It subsidizes, in a good year, nearly 15% of the budgetary needs of our school.  Let’s make this LIFE DAYS an even better one than we could ever expect!

Blessings,

        Mr. Horning

Winter Sports information…

CLA offers sports for many age levels.  We continue to work through the details of what winter sports will look like during these times, but we will be conducting some polls (coming soon) about participation to help determine scheduling.  Sports that are likely or considered for the winter:

Elementary (grades 3-6) basketball High School Boys Basketball Cheerleading

Junior High (grades 6-8) basketball High School Girls Basketball

If your child is interested in any of these, keep your eyes open for information coming up soon. We also did some informal polling at school this week.

Just ask!

Beware - Be in tune with your kids’ safety online - We use GoGuardian and Bark here at school as ways to keep our students safe online with monitoring of online time.  One benefit of this is that Bark also gives us regular communication and reminders about issues they are finding.  Recently Bark gave us an update about recent facebook and tiktok postings of violence - in particular a video circulating among these social media apps of a suicide.  We encourage parents to stay tuned in to children’s online and social media to “guard their hearts and minds” as well as possible.   Want to know more? Mrs. Stribling or Mr. Horning would be glad to talk with you!

From the Principal's Desk

Have you shared encouragement with a fellow CLA family recently?  That’s one of the facets of the CLA community that I have always loved.  Our families share many things in common - more than just the fact that we have students attending school together.  We have similar needs, similar challenges.  We have similar activities in the community.  Each of our families is unique, of course, but we also can walk with and encourage each other.  Thank you to the ones who have recently given my family encouragement.  It is my hope that we can share our strength, courage and ENCOURAGEMENT with our fellow CLA families!  “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Blessings,

        Mr. Horning

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  I think it is a great reminder to us that God has given us a COMMAND to be strong, courageous, unafraid and courageous.  Because whenever God gives us a command to follow, He gives us a promise.  His promise here: He will be with us wherever we go!  What peace and strength it can give us to remember daily that GOD IS WITH US!  Thank you, Lord for Your presence!

Thank You! A good start with “after school” student presence at school

With a couple weeks in the books, we are seeing good patterns develop.  Keep the communication open by informing the office of any changes promptly!  We are encouraging ALL families to be prompt and courteous of our staff when it comes to picking up children.  We need to keep a “tighter ship” here at campus, and have responsibility for the health/safety of all the students, so any “loose reins” on student movement are difficult!  Thank you for your partnership.

CLEANING/DISINFECTING  We are still REQUESTING more VOLUNTEERS!

  • We continue to need volunteers on Monday/Wednesday in the time period after school - likely an hour or so (2:45-3:45, or a team could choose later in the evening) each of those days.  Our regular cleaning staff is scheduled Tues/Thur/weekends.

  • We always welcome help in many areas, but cleaning/disinfection is a key area this year.

  • If you would be willing and available to be a part of a regular cleaning/disinfection team, please contact Mrs. Westley at [email protected] or Mr. Horning at [email protected]

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  How are you doing with this particular command that God gives us?  I hope that you are able to continually hand over to God the fear and discouragement, and to hold on to the strength and courage that He gives you.  May the Holy Spirit guide you as you seek the Lord daily for that strength and courage.  My hope is that you are able to also connect with others in the CLA community for the strength that can be shared together!

Blessings,

         Mr. Horning

A reminder about “after school” student presence at school

There are some changes that we have to make as a requirement for health and safety.  In the past, we had some options for “older students” grades 6-HS to have some flexibility in the time after school is released.  This is no longer available.  Students who are not picked up at regular dismissal time will have the following options:

  • K-6 students must be signed in (with a reserved spot ahead of time) to AFTER SCHOOL CARE if they remain at school.  If you have not already done so, please sign up (sheet in lobby/email Mrs. Westley) if this is something your family needs.

  • 5-HS who are on a SPORTS TEAM - fall sports at this time include 5th-8th boys baseball, and a 5th-HS running club may take shape.  Participants should change and report directly to the ball field/running area.

  • any additional MS and HS students, if not picked up immediately after school, must be signed in at one of the following placesA) in a MS classroom - this must always be pre-arranged with a teacher, not a drop-inB) at daycare - students remain in the hallway area at a desk if daycare is inside, and must remain under supervision of the daycare teacher at ALL TIMES.  Students may not be anywhere else in the building, and may not be on the playground or anywhere on school grounds unsupervised.

  • PLEASE NOTE…it is important that students are picked up in a timely manner.  If we begin to see too many students in our daycare program (exceeding 20 total students daily overall, including our regular Olympia daycare) we will have to add paid staff, and thus begin to charge daycare fees for all students not picked up at the end of the school day.  Please respect the families who NEED this after school program and the benefits to their family.

We are encouraging ALL families to be prompt and courteous of our staff when it comes to picking up children.  We need to keep a “tighter ship” here at campus, and have responsibility for the health/safety of all the students, so any “loose reins” on student movement are difficult!  Thank you for your partnership.

Reflections and reminders after one day….

There are many more, but here are some highlights:

It was DIFFERENT… but in many ways THE SAME reflecting on the first day, it was surely different, but yet there were many “the sames” as first days in the past.  Students still had pictures taken - even Mr. Horning got involved with some of them!  We checked temperatures and used hand sanitizer as a different routine, but the smiles and excitement, the nervous energy, the “newness” was still the same.  We are so excited to have our students here!

NEW RHYTHMS   yes, there are many new things to get used to, but it’s exciting to see our community becoming familiar so quickly with drop off procedures, pickup, lunchtime, how the office works differently, and so much more.  It will take time, but we will find our rhythms as a school community!

OUTSIDE CLASSROOMS   a few of the supplies for additional outdoor spaces are arriving today or tomorrow.  We will have four structures in place by the beginning of next week, hopefully.  Today, we already had a good amount of outdoor “fresh air” time!  Of course, weather will become an issue some days, but God blessed us today with a beautiful first day.

MASKS  We are so pleased with the way students are handling this new and different situation! Just a reminder that different classrooms will have different ways of working with students and situations where they have a mask break.  Our goal is to keep everyone safe.  Thank you for your partnership with our staff!

CLEANING/DISINFECTING  We are still REQUESTING more VOLUNTEERS!

  • We will need several volunteers on Monday/Wednesday in the time period after school - likely an hour or so (2:45-3:45, or a team could choose later in the evening) each of those days.  Our regular cleaning staff is scheduled Tues/Thur/weekends.

From the Principal's Desk

The first day of school happened today!  That’s thirteen “first days” for Christian Life Academy.  Praise the Lord for HIS provision.  And thank you, families, for partnering with us in this new year.  The theme to start off our year comes from Joshua 1:9...  “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  The opportunities to be fearful, to lack courage and strength, and to be discouraged were ever-present as we got ready for this year.  And the opportunity to fall into those fears and feelings will keep coming, we know.  BUT GOD IS WITH US.  We have the great opportunity to TRUST HIM. Let’s together rest in HIS PROMISE to be with us as we embark on this school year together.

Blessings,

        Mr. Horning
